Enemy Factions
Ideas
🩸You play a group of evil-aligned monsters and clash with the ideology of the City (which is to protect innocents & work with the Grand Companies).
🩸You are an Ishgardian house that HATES heretics - this City represents all that you hate.
🩸You seek to exploit this City and sow chaos so you can gain from said chaos by stealing resources or other similar objectives.((Feel free to contact Desastr if you like these ideas or have other relevant ones!))
Monster Hunters
Ideas
🩸You're a monster hunter and have heard of the City of Monsters. Perhaps your next target is here.
🩸You work with monster hunters and figure there could be a good bounty on some of these people.
🩸You're a monster hunter wanting to learn more about monsters either for malicious reasons, or in a safe setting who understands nuance and would not target members of the City, but rather truly evil voidsent/vampires/ashkin/other. (In other words, a friend, not foe).((Feel free to contact Desastr if you like these ideas or have other relevant ones!))
Rook & Allies
CONTENT WARNINGS: Heavy gore, mentioned (not played out) SA.A psychopathic scientist who's flooded herself with light aether has an association, 'Sol Invictus', and a massive amount of resources to continue pursuit on the City of Monsters & its allies. How she remains 'stable' is currently a mystery. Her goals are to extract valuable scientific data on 'monsters' in the most torturous way possible. Why? Because it greatly pleases her to do so.She is a misandrist, seeing certain people who are in her clutches or escaped her as 'hers'. Toys, pets, that's what she calls them. She does not see many (if at all) as people with feelings or emotions, but rather, is a bottomless pit of desire. For torment. Some give her the haunting title: "Forgiven Torture".She is 'the boogeyman' of the City of Monsters and remains an ongoing threat. She works with very twisted Garleans in a mutual relationship (she has tons of resources including scientific knowledge) who would still be loyal to the Empire of old, back before Garlemald's fall.Hooks
🔪You're a target of Rook for whatever reason (monster? working with monsters? Protecting them) and are captured. You may be tortured (player choice). Rescue comes from the City of Monsters or its allies.
🔪You are a hired mercenary who works for Rook, paid big money. You know who you're working for and don't care.
🔪You are a hired mercenary totally in the dark, but offered this big sum of money to captured things typically seen as 'mindless monsters', you accept the job.
🔪You are a scientist or Garlean who works for Rook...((Feel free to contact Desastr with interest. This is my villain but bear in mind to separate IC from player.))
Slaughter Gang
CONTENT WARNINGS: Heavy gore, mentioned (not played out) SA, battling traffickers & everything that comes with it.Traffickers are easily among the most evil of people in any setting. Sometimes, you need a monster to take down these amoral rings that perpetuate the suffering of innocents. That's where 'Slaughter Gang', run by mob leader 'Winter Eve', comes in.She will pose as someone selling her body to breach a trafficking ring, then start destroying them from the inside out with her gang, once she gets enough information. This gang deals a massive amount of torture to their enemies before killing them back at their base, hence the 'chaotic neutral' label. They believe evil this wretched needs to suffer. As for victims of the traffickers, they offer resources including shelter and therapy for people they rescue.Hooks
⚠️ You are a victim in need of rescue.
⚠️Your character runs a trafficking ring, and you OOCly fully intend on them being killed off (I won't work with villains of these types of crimes you don't intend on killing off.)
⚠️You wish to work with gangs who do this sort of thing and have heard rumour of this one.((Feel free to contact Desastr with interest. I am willing to play villains but bear in mind to separate IC from player. Any villains I play in this plotline will be killed off. I am not comfortable letting the evils win long term with this sort of plotline, they will eventually need a painful endpoint.))
Birdsent
When you work with, then betray, an evil scientist with the capability of turning you into a monster, you're going to run into trouble. That's exactly what happened with the City of Monster's new allies, formerly known as "The EVA". They'd been a group of Garleans who relied on an evil scientist after the fall of Garlemald for resources, providing tek for her endeavors in exchange for said resources. This went horribly wrong, especially when these Garleans went through a spiritual journey/start of a redemption arc and were spared by the City of Monsters.A few of them had their aether and DNA bombarded by a mixture of void aether and material from an as-of-now undiscovered entity. The end result is a new form of voidsent with a 'limit break' form that resemble caniform grypons. (Dogs & bears + Birds.)As of right now, they are rampaging in Othard. The City intends on rescuing them.Hooks
🐦You are a traveler in Othard and are attacked recently by a rampaging monster! You win the battle but spare the monster, noting that something isn't quite right...
🐦You hear the City of Monsters is looking for some new voidsent and gathering information on possible rampaging ones in Othard. You have information and offer it to the City.
🐦You are a monster hunter and capture one of these voidsent (not looking for character death so capture would be required).((Contact Desastr if you're interested in this plot! These characters are player characters by said user.))
Working with Grand companies
Naturally, the City of Monsters needs to be in good standing with Grand Companies in order to continue to function. Therefore, it will often do quests for the Serpents, Flames, and Maelstrom. This, along with Ishgardian Houses who are open-minded and progressive. Some City adventurers even go out of their way to Othard to aid in various tasks. These quests and trades keep this odd City in good standing with the general public. They are not seen as threat, and would want to be seen as a force of good to continue to survive with less problems. Plus, it's the right thing to do, and many 'monsters' here are into heroics, even if a bit bloody.Hooks
📚You are a high rank in one of the Grand Companies and need some powerful people to get something done.
📚You are in an Ishgardian House that is progressive and need help that 'monsters' can provide with fang, claw, and magic.
📚You're a Steppe tribe that heard some former Steppe Xaela live here and send contact for aid with matters!
📚You're unhappy about this City working with the Grand Company/your House in Ishgard and decide to do something about it.((Contact Desastr on discord for plot planning!))
Myth & Legend: The City of Monsters
What is the City of Monsters?
In short terms, it is a place where outcasts and those considered 'monsters', like voidsent, Ashkin, and more, find sanctuary. These people contribute to society and do quests for the Grand Companies along with other allied factions. The city's alignment is chaotic neutral. They're the people you go to when you need a monster, not a hero, as some very violent or brutal methods used to slay the most evil people on the star are used by the people here. That said, innocent people are safe and well protected. The curious & kind folks who want to live amongst these odd people are welcomed and protected.Myth & Legend: How would you find out about us IC?Rumour has it...Since the City aids the Grand Companies with various tasks, and does other things all over the Star with some of its members being adventurers, it's garnered a reputation. However, given its nature, many don't want to be associated with a 'den of monsters' so to speak.Stories have been twisted or changed, depicting the City as a terrifying place in some circles, and a haven of wonder in others. How would you hear about us? Well, any number of rumours can tip you off and spark your curiosity. You just need to figure out how to visit, or find one of its members... Something not that difficult to do!(Art credit here)((Have questions? Contact Desastr on discord.))
Gloomhaven Residents
Who are they?
It's been over a year since skeletal dragons attacked not only members of the City of Monsters, but people in Dravania and Coerthas as well....Many series of events later, and these former villains obsessed with survival and expansion are now allies to the City of Monsters.Turns out, Garlean experimentation can lead to a number of weird things, this new form of Ashkin (lore here) included."Gloomhaven", or <<Dead?>>, are an allied faction to the City of Monsters. Following their formation after the fall of Garlemald, these people set up base on the desolate continent in an abandoned factory and clashed with many people. They also, however, rescued monsters & non-monsters from horrible fates in their battles against an evil scientist known as "Rook".Hooks
If you're interested in interacting with these odd people, there's many ways to have connections:
💀You travel to the City of Monsters following the rumours and discover eyes that glow like the moon staring at you from the shadows. Is that a...Pureblooded Garlean...? Something is very off about them...
💀If, in your eyes, Ashkin are an unnatural scourge on this Star, the discovery of these people may be unnerving. Time to investigate? But be careful...they are protected by their allies.
💀Are you a researcher looking into Ashkin or similar monsters? You could spot one wandering the City...
💀Were you captured by an evil scientist and subsequently rescued by these Ashkin? You may have a scenario for your character similar to this scene. Plot-runner is open to be contacted regarding this.
💀Were you attacked by these people during their rampaging days? Oof... well, they've got a lot to apologize for. You'd have lost valuable resources and possibly sustained deep wounds/ a traumatic experience vs. them. Rumour has it, they're now buddy-buddy with the City of Monsters...
💀If you flat out hate Garleans IC or had bad experiences with particular individuals (would need to discuss OOC) when they were alive, you could run into them again...Interested in any of these hooks? Or just want to spot them around the City of Monsters and engage? Feel free to contact Desastr on Discord!(Art Credit Here.)
